Templar

Templar reinvents finance with a brand built from stone, code, and myth.

Templar is the first of its kind: a cypher lending protocol, a project rooted in bold ideas with a need for a brand to match. They came to us with a mission to define not just a product, but a new category, something that could signal stability and trustworthiness in a volatile space, something that felt like it was built to last.

A Nod to Knights Templar

The name, Templar, nods to the storied history to the legendary Knights Templar, widely credited with creating the earliest forms of modern banking. This historical thread offered a compelling conceptual anchor, one rooted in strength, legacy, and structure. The challenge was to reimagine these associations for a modern, digital-native audience without leaning on clichés or nostalgia. We needed to craft a brand that could feel timeless, yet future-forward, technical, yet evocative.

Ancient Meets Futuristic

We started with a question: what gives something permanence? Our answer lay in the material. Temples, vaults, legacies, they’re all built from something solid. Like the great temples and knightly orders of the past, it’s the foundational elements, the stone, the structure,, that endure. Marble became the cornerstone of our concept: a material synonymous with strength, elegance, and permanence.

We contrasted this physical solidity with a hidden digital world. Inside the marble, a glitching, animated texture pulses with energy, hinting at the high-tech nature of the protocol within. This juxtaposition became the through-line of the brand: ancient meets futuristic, analogue meets digital, solidity meets movement. It shows up everywhere: in the textures, in the movement, in the way the brand unfolds.

Gold-leaf accents nod to the mystique of the Ark of the Covenant, also used as a basis to inform our colour palette. Blueprint lines borrow from architecture and structure and inspired our graphic systems and illustration style. Together, they balance the mystical with the highly technical. The sacred with modern scalability.

Creating a sense of authority

The identity system is structured, refined, and deeply considered. Layouts draw from traditional publishing and architectural plans, lending the site a sense of authority and weight. Monospaced typography injects a technical edge, animated subtly on scroll to evoke precision and intent.

Iconography and illustration lean into clean line work and shadow, minimal but full of spatial depth. The result is a visual language that feels exacting yet expansive.

At the centre of the site is the marble pillar, an object rendered in WebGL. At first glance, it’s still, monumental. But scroll, and it begins to fracture, splintering to reveal the digital heart inside. Then, it reforms. Stronger. Whole again. This moment of interaction brings the brand to life: mysterious, powerful, and distinctly Templar.

Breaking open, Rebuilding Stronger

We weren’t just branding a protocol, we were telling a story of transformation. A story about breaking open the systems of the past, revealing their hidden machinery, and reassembling something stronger in their place.

This is more than a fintech website. It’s a piece of narrative infrastructure. A brand built not just to be seen, but to be uncovered—layer by layer, scroll by scroll.
