Where Opportunity Takes Root
Turning a landmark opportunity study into something to be uncovered, not just read
For many Americans, opportunity feels hidden behind barriers hard to navigate. Where Opportunity Takes Root, conducted by Gallup and supported by the Walton Family Foundation, explored the factors that help people access opportunity and thrive. Gladeye's challenge was to turn that research into an experience built for discovery, revealing its insights piece by piece.
Opportunity is uncovered
Rather than presenting the report as a static collection of findings, we designed an experience where insights emerge progressively through interaction. Layers reveal themselves over time, data unfolds and connections become visible, each interaction uncovering another piece of a larger story.
As users move through the report, individual findings begin to connect, building a richer understanding of the conditions that help young people access opportunity. In this way the experience mirrors the research itself: looking deeper reveals insights that might otherwise remain hidden. This principle informed every decision that followed, from navigation and motion through to storytelling and visual design.
Designing for discovery
Motion became a primary storytelling tool throughout the experience, with content revealed through a system of progressive disclosure that lets audiences explore findings at their own pace. Rather than relying on conventional report structures, information is introduced through interaction, creating moments of curiosity, engagement, and surprise.
A reflection of the subject itself
Throughout the site, motion, interaction, and content work together to transform reading into exploration. By turning a traditional report into an interactive experience, the project encourages deeper engagement with the findings and builds stronger connections between audiences and the research, inviting participation in the process of discovery rather than simply presenting evidence.
The result is a digital experience that feels uniquely aligned with its subject matter, where the act of uncovering insights becomes a reflection of uncovering opportunity itself.
